Celebrate PATANJALI’S YOGA SUTRAS – for its timeless wisdom that has guided Yogis for the last 2 millennia. In fact, it was the most translated ancient text in medieval India – translated into over 40 Indian and 2 foreign languages.
We host a Live Discussion on Zoom that all are welcome to attend this Saturday.
Yes, it would be good to have listened to the Sutras’ Modules so you can absorb a lot more during the Live; but that isn’t mandatory – and you can attend even to get Inspired.
More About the Yoga Sutras
How do you define Yoga?
You might be surprised at how Patanjali defines Yoga - no mention of Union, in fact quite the opposite. Chapter 1 of the Sutras: SAMADHI PADA leads us through the Patterns of Consciousness; the 2 qualities needed to succeed; about a special Self; the Hindrances we encounter and Way to overcome them; and finally to the varied stages of Samadhi.
What does Patanjali mean by Ahimsa?
How about Asana & Pranayam? Do his definitions find resonance with your daily practices of these pillars of the 8-stages of Yoga? Chapter 2; SADHANA PADA leads us through the reasons for Suffering; and the most practical aspects of the Yoga Darshana - the 'ashta-anga' of Yamas, Niyama, Asana, Pranayam & Pratyahara, with an understanding of the evolving journey that is common to each seeker.
Have you ever thought about what it would feel like to have a mystical power?
Patanjali's descriptions of possibilities of human potential raises the scope of the journey from beyond the psychological to the metaphysical - while warning us about getting distracted! Chapter 3: VIBHUTI PADA begins with definitions of Meditation & Samadhi, and the transformation of the mind towards Samyama which when applied on various aspects brings astonishing mastery over the elements and omniscient knowledge.
What is the goal of Yoga? It isn't Samadhi.
Have you thought about what that state of being would feel like? The experience of Kaivalya in daily living. Chapter 4: KAIVALYA PADA is a metaphysically dense chapter that flies above almost all our understanding and yet teaches us much about Karmas; Life, Death & Rebirth, what Time is; about Transformations; and finally the dissolution of Identity.
The only question remains.... Are you ready for Yoga? ATHA YOGANUSHASANAM.
